Skillful Hands Pass on Intangible Cultural Heritage, Cultural Heritage Nourishes Youth: Basic Teaching Department Hosts Experiential Workshop on Traditional Craftsmanship

To promote the introduction of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into campuses, deepen campus cultural development, and facilitate the deep integration of excellent traditional Chinese culture with education, the Basic Teaching Department organized an experiential workshop themed "Skillful Hands Pass on Intangible Cultural Heritage, Cultural Heritage Nourishes Youth" on the afternoon of June 9 at the library of the Airport Campus. The event was attended by student representatives from the class of 2025, with all teachers from the Chinese and Humanities Teaching and Research Office participating throughout the event.

The activity deeply integrated local ICH resources of Xinzheng, offering two featured experiential projects: paper cutting and tile rubbing. Adopting an integrated teaching model of "theoretical explanation + master demonstration + practical creation," the workshop helped students gain a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage and historical connotations behind traditional ICH skills.

The event was filled with a strong cultural atmosphere, with ICH inheritors present on-site to provide hands-on guidance for students' practical skills. The paper cutting tutorial focused on auspicious patterns, explaining basic techniques such as paper folding, cutting, carving, and hollowing out to lower the entry barrier. The tile rubbing course provided step-by-step instruction on core procedures like laying paper, applying ink, and rubbing, while detailing key operational precautions. During the free creation session, students actively engaged their minds and hands, making bold innovations. Teachers and ICH inheritors walked around to answer questions and encouraged students to combine modern creativity with traditional craftsmanship. The students produced numerous exquisite paper cuttings and tile rubbings, fully demonstrating the artistic literacy and innovative thinking of young students.

This event enriched the forms of the campus's second classroom and broadened students' cultural horizons. Through immersive practice, students cultivated their aesthetic sentiments and strengthened their cultural confidence. Moving forward, the Basic Teaching Department will regularly organize a series of ICH cultural activities, continuously consolidating the effectiveness of cultural education and guiding young students to actively inherit and innovate excellent traditional Chinese culture.
