The School of Water Conservancy Engineering, founded in 2003, is one of the earliest faculties of Henan Vocational College of Water Conservancy and Environment. It has consistently served the water conservancy development in Henan Province and various water conservancy and hydropower enterprises nationwide, contributing significantly to the water conservancy industry and regional economic growth by cultivating a host of outstanding professionals, thereby earning a strong reputation. Through years of development, the School has established competitive advantages characterized by excellent education conditions and distinctive programs, while keeping pace with the development of universities within and beyond Henan to continuously enhance its academic strength.

The School comprises four professional teaching and research sections: Water Conservancy Engineering, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering, Smart Water Conservancy, and Engineering Safety and Testing. Among them, the Teaching and Research Section of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering is rated as an Excellent Primary-level Teaching Organization of Henan Province. The School currently employs 44 full-time faculty members, including 37 with master's degrees or higher, 27 holding lecturer-level titles or above, 28 national "dual-qualified" teachers in the water conservancy industry, two vocational education experts in water conservancy, two emerging vocational education talents in water conservancy, three provincial-level teaching masters, and one provincial-level key teacher.

The School is equipped with six on-campus training facilities, including the Integrated Water Conservancy Engineering Training Center, Building Materials and Testing Training Room, Hydraulics Training Room, Construction Technology Training Room, Bidding Simulation Training Room, and Engineering Cost Estimation Training Room, along with 15 off-campus training bases.

The School provides continuing education and training for second-level construction engineers, as well as vocational training for water conservancy construction workers, safety officers, cost estimators, and supervisors for the water conservancy industry in Henan Province, having trained over 1,400 person-times of various personnel over the past three years. Leveraging its Vocational Skill Appraisal Station, the School has carried out a total of more than 700 person-times of skill appraisals for intermediate surveyors among on-the-job employees in the engineering industry and students on campus. Its faculty members have also actively participated in technical service projects multiple times, including drafting the construction schemes for rural safe drinking water projects, providing supervision services for water-saving retrofits in irrigation districts, compiling the manuals related to the prevention and control of mountain torrents, designing the construction schemes for specific sections of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, developing the construction schemes for the dam gallery of the reservoir project in Hekou Village, preparing the operation and management schemes for Luhun Reservoir Hydropower Station, formulating the flood-season diversion schemes for the Heigangkou approach channel and associated works approach channel of the river system project in Kaifeng New District, reviewing the implementation schemes for the construction projects in Henan's key counties (project counties) for small-scale farmland water conservancy, and conducting the performance evaluations on the construction projects in Henan's key counties (project counties) for small-scale farmland water conservancy. These engagements have effectively addressed industry challenges and significantly enriched the practical experience of faculty members.

In recent years, the School has developed rapidly and achieved notable accomplishments across multiple areas. Since 2011, its teaching team has frequently coached students in the National Skills Competition for Water Conservancy Vocational Colleges, with 16 teachers having been awarded the honorary title of "Excellent Instructor". Since 2015, eight person-times of the team have won awards at or above the department level in competitions such as high-quality lesson teaching contests and information-based technology skills competitions. The major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was designated as a project of "Comprehensive Professional Reform Pilot" for institutions of higher education in Henan Province in 2014, and was further identified as a National Key Specialty Development Project under the Innovation and Development Action Plan in 2016. In 2017, the Teaching and Research Section of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was designated by the Education Department of Henan Province as an approved project for the construction of "Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization". In 2018, the major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was listed as a third-batch pilot construction major for the modern apprenticeship system by the Ministry of Education, and the major of Water Conservancy Engineering was designated as an approved project for the construction of High-quality Major by the Ministry of Water Resources. In 2019, the major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering successfully passed the acceptance check of the national-level Key Specialty Development Project under the Innovation and Development Action Plan. In 2020, the major group of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was approved for the construction of high-level majors in higher vocational colleges of Henan Province. In 2022, the major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was rated as an approved project for the construction of the Henan provincial demonstration site for the modern apprenticeship system. In 2023, the teaching team of the major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering was selected as an approved project for the construction of the third batch of national-level teacher innovation teams for vocational education. In 2024, the major of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering successfully passed the acceptance check of the construction project of the Henan provincial demonstration site for the modern apprenticeship system. In 2025, the major group of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Engineering successfully passed the acceptance check of the high-level major groups in higher vocational colleges of Henan Province.
